Nurses have more career options than they know
By

Take Charge of Your Nursing Career
Nurses have dozens of career paths to choose from and numerous academic options to help them attain the kind of job they desire. While most career-advice books are aimed at new nurses, Take Charge of Your Nursing Career, a new book by Lois S. Marshall, PhD, RN, who has mentored nurses more than 30 years, provides practical, step-by-step information for nurses at whatever stage of their career they are currently in.

In the book’s foreword, Melanie Dreher, PhD, RN, FAAN, the John L. and Helen Kellogg Dean of the College of Nursing at Rush University in Chicago, observes, “In this highly readable and practical book, Dr. Marshall shares the concerns and questions of real nurses as they considered career change and then pursued choices they didn’t even realize were open to them.”

Published by the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), the book addresses these and other topics:

  • Becoming a mentor and finding a mentor
  • Choosing the advanced nursing degree that’s best for you
  • Becoming a nurse entrepreneur
  • Practicing the art of negotiation

Another book published recently by STTI is Anatomy of Writing for Publication for Nurses, by Cynthia L. Saver, RN, MS. Both books are available at www.nursingknowledge.org/STTIbooks. RNL
