You either loved ’em or hated ’em, that ubiquitous series of TV commercials for Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel Insoles in which one cool partygoer asks another, “Are you gellin’?” With apologies to those who couldn’t wait for those all-rhyme-and-no-reason commercials to be pulled, I ask: Are you RNL’n’?
The clicks heard ’round the world
Reflections on Nursing Leadership, aka RNL, isn’t the magazine it was. It’s better. Although RNL is still a quarterly magazine, for the past nine months it has been updated virtually every day, sometimes with feature articles, sometimes with news of general interest to nurses, sometimes with news of interest only to members of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International.
It’s more current, more interactive, more responsive and more available. From virtually anywhere in the world, you can retrieve content dating back to the Third Quarter 2005 with just a few clicks. Chances are, someone, somewhere in the world, is clicking through RNL right now, and finding things they never used to find in Reflections on Nursing Leadership. Things such as Twitter tweets, blogger blogs, Facebook connections and RSS feeds.
Get RNL via RSS
Not into RSS feeds yet? Why not get started with RNL? It’s easy. In fact, RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.
First, choose a reader. To find one, click on the RSS feed icon in the upper right-hand corner of RNL’s home page, right below “Stay connected.” (I use Google’s reader, but there are at least 18 other Web-based readers to choose from.)
After registering—it’s free—log in and instruct the reader you’ve selected to bring you each and every update to Reflections on Nursing Leadership when it becomes available. Do the same with other sites you frequent and, before long, you’ll develop the RSS feed habit. Instead of venturing out into cyberspace every day to look for content you value, let the RSS feeder do that work for you and bring it directly to your desktop, laptop, Blackberry, iPhone, iPad or other PDA device—you name it.
Or, if you prefer, be notified of the latest RNL posting via e-mail. To initiate e-mail notification, click on the same RSS feed icon and check the box next to “Get Nursing Society RNL delivered by e-mail.” (It’s directly below the logos for the various RSS feeders.)
Are you RNL’n’? Signing up for an RSS feed is a good way to get started. RNL
